
Guidance services are needed to meet the needs of youth. The goals of guidance services are as follows:
1. To provide counseling
Counseling is needed when a well-adjusted pupil faces problems that he cannot solve by himself, parents or teachers.
2. To study the child/ person.
This includes the following activities
- to determine a pupils ‘experience or the next phase in a social programme
- to help pupils and their teachers determine whether there is satisfactory progress in schoolwork or not:
- to identify and diagnose learning problems and to plan appropriate remedial programs for individuals:
- to identify pupils for special programs involving special children:
- to help individuals discover what they feel, need to know about themselves in order to make intelligent educational and vocational plans.
- to help pupils to identify and to cope with those distracting and disturbing forces which interfere with efficient learning and healthy living.
3. To help in adjustment (orientation).
Orientation aims to help pupils prepare for and adjust to new situations as they progress through the schools.
4. To provide assistance in information provision
Here guidance services act as a cooperative effort of teachers, counselors, and librarians to collect appropriate informatory materials, organize them for pupils’ most efficient use, and help pupils understand the importance of materials.
5. To help in educational and vocational planning.
Man has the right to choose his life career. For this, a pupil must understand his abilities, aptitudes, and interest and be familiar with occupational opportunities available to him.
6. To assist in job placement
For best occupational placement most youngsters need assistance in identifying and in developing their saleable skills, in identifying appropriate jobs for these skills, and in selling them to a prospective employers. Guidance services provide assistance in this respect.
7. To provide follow to the students.
Guidance can provide a student with information that may be useful after school. This will also assist teachers to design their programs accordingly.
8. To help in leadership and social development
A carefully planned guidance program helps in the identification and training of prospective leaders and encourages school activities. These activities provide leadership experience and assist in the development of meaningful social and co-curricular activities.

Process objectives:
These are objectives in terms of process.
Outcome objectives:
These are concerned with the result of guidance.
Performance objectives:
Guidance should bring a difference in peoples’.
